Applicants to undergraduate courses, particularly in USand Canada, are required to take the SATexam. If the student is looking to get admission to a particular course, she/he can take the SATsubject tests to show his knowledge and understanding of that particular subject. Subject tests are offered in areaslikeLiterature, History, Mathematics,Sciences and Foreign Languages. Used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions, it is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test administered by the CollegeBoard. The purpose of the SATisto measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.
College admissions officers will review standardized test scores along side your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays. How important SATscores are in the college application process varies from school to school.
Overall, the higher you score on the SATand/or ACT(AmericanCollege Testing), the more options for attending and paying for college will be available to you.
Unlike ACTwhich tests what the candidate already knows, SAT tests what the candidate is aware of and what he/she is capable of learning. Its intent is to test the student’s academic readiness for college and future academic success.
